ENGLISH LANGUAGE & WRITING CLASSES
English Language & Literacy Classes
(Beginners to Intermediate Levels)
(ACFE funded) (Amenities and materials fees $18.40. Membership as applicable)
Improve and develop communication and language skills, for everyday life or the workplace, with lessons in reading, writing, speaking and listening. An introduction to basic computer and internet work provides opportunities to develop communication skills through the use of computers. Our classes cater to the individual needs of people from English or non-English speaking backgrounds.
Learning Circle Groups – Peer assisted and self-directed learning: Practice and learn English in good company with native speakers. Phone reception on 9776 1386 to make an appointment to see the Tutor.
The cost for these courses is $60 for all students upon their first term enrolment each year (plus an annual membership fee). Each term after that the cost is $40 for the remainder of the year ($20 concession). (If you are not a permanent Australian Resident the cost is $560 per year for one class per week). Our Language and Literacy classes are funded by Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE).

WRITING COURSES
Writing Creatively Towards Your Future Cost: $45
(ACFE funded) (Amenities and materials fees $18.40. Membership as applicable)This pre-accredited writing course will provide a learning pathway opportunity for further studies in accredited training and/or future employment opportunities. Within the 20 hour course learners will complete five hours of e-learning that will involve research into blogging, journalism, screen play writing, amongst other literary platforms that lead to employment opportunities. Includes Certificate of Completion.

I.T. Courses
Just starting with your iPad Cost: $45

Jump into the iPad revolution! This course is aimed at the beginner iPad user with very little experience. Learn the most useful apps found on your iPad including Mail, Safari and Camera. Send and receive emails with confidence and browse the internet with your iPad. Enjoy some of the most exciting, free iPad features including FaceTime video calls and sending iMessages to fellow iPad users. Examine your iPad’s settings to put you back in control of your ring tone, wallpaper and password. Create an Apple ID and Account, and shop the iTunes store for free music, books and apps. Manage your new books, music and apps in iBooks, Music and the App store. *Please note that in order to create an Apple account and download music, books and apps, students must be willing to purchase either an iTunes voucher or a pre-paid credit card. Minimum iTunes voucher spend is $20.* It is essential that you bring your own iPad to each class. Includes Certificate of Completion.

Continuing With Your iPad Cost: $45

In this course we will be looking more in-depth into the world of the iPad. Some of the topics we will be exploring are types of apps and downloading them, using the camera, making family picture slideshows and easy ways to make videos, sync music, share calendars and “to do” lists, movies and TV. We will also look at community facilities that are available on the iPad, customise settings and much more, as well as address any questions or issues you may be having with your tablet. It is essential that you bring your own iPad to each class. Includes Certificate of Completion.

Social Media Using Your iPad Cost: $45

In this very informative course you will learn how to navigate the world of social media on your iPad. We hear how scary sites like Facebook and Twitter can be. However, in this course we look at how you can stay in touch with family and friends, play online games, investigate your hobbies and interests, and stay up-to-date with current affairs, government organisations, celebrities and make your opinion count. We will also provide an overview of your myGov account and what you may be required to do. All while keeping your privacy safe. Topics covered include: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Online Games and the myGov website.
It is essential that you bring your own iPad to each class. Includes a certificate of completion.

Meet the Mouse – Computers for Beginners Cost: $45
(ACFE funded) (Amenities and materials fees $18.40. Membership as applicable)
This is a beginner’s course for those with little or no prior knowledge or experience. Using Windows 7 you will learn to use the mouse and keyboard and learn how to personalise your settings. Learn the fundamentals of MS Office 2010 with word processing to create documents, print, save, basic formatting and an introduction to using the internet and email. Includes a certificate of completion.

Windows 10 Cost $30
(Fee for Service Short Course)
This course is for people who are already familiar with Windows 7 or Windows 8 but would like to upgrade to Windows 10. Participants must bring their own computers to class. Includes a certificate of completion.

Broaden Your Computer Horizons Cost: $45

In this course participants will “revise” some of the subjects that were taught in the “Meet the Mouse” Course. It will also expand on some of the subjects covered (such as Email), as well as cover useful new topics including Resume Preparation (formatting), File Management and Social Networking. The aim of this course is to assist you to further enhance your skills set for seeking employment or volunteering within your community. Includes a certificate of completion.

Broaden Your Microsoft Office Horizons Cost: $45

It is designed to improve your work readiness by building upon your existing knowledge, in order to further enhance your skills set for seeking employment or volunteering within your community. Digital Photo Editing – Introduction Cost: $45

Begin your digital photography journey! This course is intended for participants with basic computer skills. It will focus on using and editing photos. Key features include using simple photo editing strategies, airbrushing and removing facial wrinkles, creating a photo slideshow with music, creating an online photo scrapbook and enjoying photo collages. Other exciting elements of the course include emailing, printing, backing up and burning photos. This skills set could be extremely valuable in the workplace to assist with enhancing websites and digital displays. Includes a certificate of completion.

Digital Photo Editing – Intermediate Cost: $45
(ACFE funded) (Amenities and materials fees $18.40. Membership as applicable) (Basic computing skills essential)
This course is a continuation of Digital Photo Editing Introduction and will examine more advanced digital photography skills. Students will examine Paint.Net (a free alternative to Adobe Photoshop Elements) and will learn to create, improve and transform images using a layered image editor. This will include gaining an understanding of layers to create collages, learning to place elements of one image into another image, removing unwanted scratches and small objects, correcting colour levels and altering a body shape to appear thinner or more muscular. This course will also provide a basic introduction to Windows Movie Maker including a basic understanding of importing and editing video clips. This skills set could be extremely valuable in the workplace to assist with enhancing websites and digital displays. Includes a certificate of completion.

Introduction to Family History Computer Based Programs (Fee For Service Short Course) Cost: $60
A six week program of two hourly sessions that introduces you to the three most used computer based family history packages, Ancestry.com, Family Search (Latter Day Saints), and My Heritage. The course covers topics such as the initial costs and renewal fees, how to use the search facilities, and how to enter your family history details onto their charts, and how to use the print facility to publish your family history and genealogical charts. (Participants can use Longbeach PLACE computers or bring their own laptops and iPads).
